Greek Traditional Music – Intangible Cultural Heritage
Interdisciplinary Conference on the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage, entitled "Greek Traditional Music - Intangible Cultural Heritage, 20 years of the UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage"
The conference includes three thematic sessions: The first section deals with general issues of DRR, internationally and particularly in Greece. The second section focuses on a critical dialogue on the three elements of Greek musical culture that have already been inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The third section returns to the theme of LIS in general and examines current methods and practices from the fields of Digital Science, Technology and Education. The conference will conclude with a round table discussion to codify the conclusions and further plan actions on LCA.
The inscribed elements of Greek musical culture that will be discussed are (in order of inscription on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity):
- Momoeria, a custom of the Twelve Days from Kozani, which is a traditional form of Pontian folk theatre (2016),
- Rebetiko (2017) and
- Byzantine Music / Psaltic Art, (joint registration with Cyprus, 2019).
Distinguished speakers from the whole spectrum of institutions and organizations of the country dealing with research, promotion and preservation of intangible cultural heritage, as well as internationally renowned scientists who are working on modern methodologies for the wider investigation and management of culture contribute with their presence to a rich exchange of views on intangible cultural heritage.
It is worth noting that representatives of the communities linked to the registered data will play an important role in the work of the conference.
