Dimitris Kotronakis (b. 1973) is a classical guitarist and musicologist from Athens. He began studying classical guitar at the age of seven and graduated from the Athens International Conservatory of Music with a guitar diploma in 1992. He pursued postgraduate studies in classical guitar at the Athens Conservatory, graduating in 1996. He continued with studies in higher theory and musicology, leading to a Diploma in Flute (Athens International Conservatory) and a degree in Musicology (University of Athens, Faculty of Philosophy, Department of Music Studies), in 1996. He holds a PhD degree from the same university (2014), supervised by Professor Markos Tsetsos, and his doctoral studies focused on the world of the guitar in Greece. He has been awarded many times in guitar competitions in Greece, Spain, Romania and the USA. He has recorded nine albums of works for solo guitar, chamber music and concerts for guitar and orchestra, mainly for EMI Classics, Clear Note and Soundset Records. He has given numerous recitals in Europe, North America and China. He has collaborated as a soloist with the Kielce Philharmonic Orchestra (Poland), the Artave Orchestra (Portugal), the Craiova Philharmonic Orchestra (Romania), the Camerata Orchestra, and the Athens Philharmonic Orchestra. He teaches guitar at two music institutions in Athens, the Athens International Conservatory and the Panarmonio Conservatory. He is a member of the organizing committee of the historic Volos International Guitar Festival. As a researcher he focuses his interests mainly on the history of the guitar and Greek art music.
