Olga Kakosimou is working on a postdoctoral research entitled “Fado and the music industry: Issues of traditionality and commerciality” at the Ethnomusicology and Cultural Anthropology Laboratory of the Department of Music Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, focusing on the contemporary management of fado as cultural heritage and collective memory, the performance of fado in contemporary international music scenes and how it is projected by the local and global music industry. She holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology of Music from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and has completed postgraduate studies in Ethnomusicology at the Université Paris VIII St. Denis and Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Through long term field research in Lisbon, she studied the fado music community and the practice of performing traditional fado through the theory and methodology of verbal and oral art. Her research interests also concern other scientific fields such as dramaturgy and physical theater. She has presented topics at international conferences and her articles have been published in scientific journals. Since 2009 she has been teaching as a permanent music teacher in primary education.
